The Arrowhead on JoBlo.com had perhaps the most effective quote on Ex Machina I might discover anywhere when he wrote about this film “& ldquo; Ex-spouse Machina was Frankenstein meets The Island of Dr. Moreau using Standard Impulse.” & rdquo; which almost sums this flick up for me.
Wacky introspective Caleb (Domnhall Gleeson) is a twenty something intellectual who functions as a coder for a big corporation that runs this universe’& rsquo; s variation of Google, ran by a guy (Oscar Isaac) that is essentially the major remarkable variation of Lou (inventor of Lougle) from Hot Tub Time Equipment. Nathan is claimed CEO’& rsquo; s name, as well as he is the dazzling & ldquo; Dr. Monster” & rdquo; concerned right here.
Although he invests a lot of his time in this film imitating a jock, working out, alcohol consumption as well as doing drugs and being a separated douchebag.
Someday Caleb wins a competitors to come bent on the secret burrow of Nathan to help out on his most current job, a robot lady total with “& ldquo; actual A.I & rdquo; named Ava(Alicia Vikander) that Caleb is to talk to over the course of a week to see if he can identify real abstract thought/real knowledge.
This film for me resembled a low profile variation of Blade Jogger with all the activity scenes cut-out.
It’& rsquo; s not a motion picture for every person, as it & rsquo; s a slow burning and really talkative sort of film. I found it occasionally remarkable, and it never ever tired me, neither did it gratify me though. Vikander, and also the special impacts team that assisted create Ava’& rsquo; s body language were a real tour de force below.
One criticism I seem to be in the majority with is that movie does fall victim to the “& ldquo; one a lot of ends” & rdquo; trap. Besides that, the pacing is nice as well as systematic, and the performing is very good.
Several of the dialogue really felt a little as well self-aware/preachy and also philosophical in tone (and afterwards punctuated by the truth that Nathan’& rsquo; s character spends much of the film underlining the importance of the discussion by noting whenever Caleb has a good line), as opposed to like an actual discussion that human beings may have. The ambience is claustrophobic and creepy, which I suggest as a praise.
Overall I would certainly rank this as a strong film, also if it didn’& rsquo; t live up to several of the buzz I check out, but it’& rsquo; s certainly a clever sexy thriller stuffed film that I suggest everyone look into. If you’& rsquo; re in the mood for an advanced neo-noir with a Femme Bot Fatale, this may be the motion picture for you.
Ex-spouse Machina gets a three out of 5: GOOD.
