Felicity Leaving Arrow Before Final Season

Good news Arrow fans (bad news Olicity Tumblr fans), Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak, is leaving the show early.

When Arrow starts its eighth and final season, it’ll do so without Felicity. The currently ongoing seventh season will be the actresses last.

Rickards made the announcement via her Instagram:

If you can see the embedded post, here’s what she wrote:

The time has come to talk of many memes. Of bows and arrows and superheroes and Olicity and Queens
And why TGA is so damn hot
And yes, canaries need more scenes… But wait just one minute
before we go and do all that
For this makes me out of breath
To have this not small chat

Felicity and I
are a very tight two
But after one through seven
we will be saying goodbye to you

I thank you all for the time we’ve shared
The elevators we have climbed
The monsters we have faced and scared
And The burgers we have dined
I will keep her in my heart for always
And I hope that you can too
Because she would not be alive if it weren’t for all of you

It’ll be interesting to see how her departure is handled. The ongoing flash-forward arc says her character is still alive years from now, so the character won’t be killed off. Still, something causes her to disappear and take on the moniker that her father once used, the Calculator.

Patriot’s Ponderings: Thank God. I’ve nothing against Emily as a person, or even actress, but the Felicity character and particular the obsession with “Olicity” kinda ruined the show for me. Shame that the last season will likely end up being the best. Maybe I’ll start watching it again.
