Jim Crockett Jr. Passes Away at 76

Jim Crockett Jr.

It’s a sad day in the world of wrestling as former promoter Jim Crockett Jr. has passed away at 76.

Mr. Crockett was hospitalized over the weekend with reports indicating that he was suffering with liver and kidney failure.

Jim Crockett Jr. took over Jim Crockett Promotions in the 1970’s.

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim Crockett Promotions was once one of the largest wrestling promotions in the United States and certainly one of the most influential and popular National Wrestling Alliance branded entities.

Crockett Jr. served as three terms as the President of the National Wrestling Alliance.

Crockett sold his promotion to Ted Turner in 1988 and was it was renamed World Championship Wrestling.

In addition to promoting wrestling, Mr. Crockett also briefly owned two minor league baseball teams and a hockey team.

On behalf of everyone at Vortainment, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Jim Crockett Jr. and our thanks are with him for all that he did for the wrestling industry and the fond memories many a Southern wrestling fan has.
