Hidden in some levels of the Marvel’s Avengers campaign, and otherwise acquired via random drops in strongboxes or as the reward for HARM rooms, are comic books.nThese comic books show up in your menu under the Collections tab, but unlike intelligence files and codex entries they aren’t just collectibles.nIn Marvel’s Avengers, comic books have a purpose and are extremely valuable in the long term.nCurrently in the game, there are 10 sets of comic books:nThor Series – 9nCaptain America Series – 5nThe Incredible Hulk Series – 6nIron Man Series – 5nMs. Marvel Series – 5nBlack Widow Series – 5nAvengers 1 Series – 5nAvengers: Legacy Series – 5nClassics 1 Tales – 6nGenerations Series – 5nYou may look at that and think there’s 56 different comics to collect, and you’d be right. But you can get many duplicates of each of these, and that’s what you want. Because each individual comic has a stat bonus attributed to it.nnnIf you were to do this week’s HARM Priority Challenge, you would get Black Widow (2010) #5 from it. This particular comic provides Status Resistance. As you acquire duplicates, you raise the Tier level of that comic. At Tier 1, which is 1 to 4 issues, you’ll have 0.5% Status Resistance. Once you acquire your fifth one, you’ll move up to Tier 2 and have 1% Status Resistance. In order to reach the next Tier, you’ll need to collect that one comic 10 times.nThese stat bonuses are shared between all of your characters, and the bonuses themselves aren’t exclusive to a particular comic. This puts me at Tier 2 for this issue, giving me a 1% increase to Status Resistance, and I’ll need to acquire this issue four more times to get another increase and hit Tier 3 with it.nAs you gain these duplicate issues and advance in Tiers, you can see the increase to the set bonuses to the right of the comic (as shown above). That of course just shows the bonuses from that particular set, and again these same bonuses also come from different sets.nTo see your total in any of these stats, say Status Resistance, you can go to the Gear page in your menu and press R3 to bring up your Hero Statistics.nnThis toggle screen shows all of your equipped hero’s stats, which comes from your Gear stats and your comic set bonuses.nAs you can see, my Status Resistance is at 16.9% currently. If I didn’t change anything about my setup currently, that would rise each time I advanced in a Tier for any comic book that gains a % increase to Status Resistance.nOver time, many many hours of playing across all characters, you’re going to acquire more and more duplicates and that’s when you’ll start to see these numbers slowly go up passively.nNow there’s currently 56 comics in the game and you advance Tiers in increments of five duplicates… so obviously this is a slow and random process.nBut, if you had nothing else to do in the game, you can farm comics. You just can’t really target farm them.nnYou can randomly find comic books in chests/strongboxes of any kind (gold, silver, bronze, DNA). They seem to have a pretty decent drop rate.nThusly, find a mission that has chests and farm it. This is a rather boring and tedious method, in my opinion, for something that is a random drop. But, if you choose to farm strongboxes, be on the lookout for a minor artifact like the one above.nThe Norn Stone of the Fanatic gives a 5% increased chance to find comic books in strongboxes. I assume you can get a higher percent chance on one, but that is the only one of these artifact that I’ve gotten so I can’t know that for sure and I haven’t seen an Epic version of it.nThe other way to farm comic books is more fun because you’re doing something; HARM Challenges.nEach week, there are two Priority HARM Challenges. They both award the same comic, guaranteed. The week this guide goes live it’s Black Widow (2010) #5. Do both of these Priority Challenges, and you will get this same comic twice. If you do it more than twice, you’ll just get a random comic instead.nThe other HARM challenges offer up a random comic book as your reward, but it is guaranteed to get one. Of course with 56 currently in the game, and needing to get duplicates in increments of five to get higher percentage increases, you have a lot of RNG to deal with to start making any noticeable headway on this stuff.nI wouldn’t just sit and do HARM rooms all day, but you should work them in to your routine and make sure you at least do the two Priority ones each week as that’s two of the same issue guaranteed.nThe comic books aren’t just collectibles; they give a tangible buff to all of your characters and so they are a highly valuable resource. But you have to remember that that gaining those Tiers is going to be a slow climb, one steep in RNG, and that they are career based (there’s no seasons that will wipe out your gains). This is a “game as a service” that will be supported for years to come, and if you stick with the game these duplicate comic books will slowly overtime help make your Avengers ever more powerful.nI wouldn’t recommend going heavy on trying to farm comic books, unless you have absolutely nothing else to do, but I would suggest making an effort to open every chest you see and doing some HARM rooms every week.
