This season, Season of the Splicer, Bungie has added two new weapons and reissued two year one weapons to the Iron Banner loot pool.
One of the new weapons is a High Impact Solar Machine Gun called Archon’s Thunder.
You can acquire Archon’s Thunder as post game drops during the Iron Banner, as a reward from Iron Banner bounties, or by turning in Iron Banner tokens to Lord Saladin.
UPDATE 5/18: There is an issue with the new Iron Banner weapons, Riiswalker and Archon’s Thunder, and they are unavailable from Iron Banner engrams and bounties. Currently the only way to get these weapons is from the Iron-Handed Diplomacy quest.
Before we begin, you can check out our other Destiny 2 weapon god roll guides here.
Archon’s Thunder PvP God Roll
For PvP, I recommend this roll:
From left to right we have:
- Smallbore – Increases range and stability
- Accurized Rounds – Increases range
- Rangefinder – Aiming increases effective range and zoom
- Iron Grip – Massively improves stability at the cost of reload
- Range (or Stability) Masterwork
Now call me crazy, but I don’t use heavy weapons in crucible. That’s partly because I don’t like the way heavy ammo is done in Destiny 2, and also because I’m usually no where near the ammo or use it as bait.
With that said, when I do use one I use machine guns because I don’t find them as cheap as others in the slot, and so this is the roll I want.
With this roll, again for PvP, we’re focused on increasing range and stability.
You’re not going to have enough ammo at any given time to worry about the reload speed, and that’s why I’m recommended Iron Grip. Rangefinder gives the range boost while Iron Grip gives the stability boost.
These perks get you the following stats:
We could make a few tweaks and get the range down a little and up the stability a little more, but this is the setup I’d favor.
Another solid PvP roll would be Killing Wind with Iron Grip or Rampage.
Archon’s Forge PvE God Roll
The roll I want for PvE is:
- Flared Magwell – increases reload speed and stability
- Field Prep – increased ammo reserves plus some additional boosts while crouched
- Rampage – kills temporarily increase weapon damages, stacks 3x.
- Reload Speed Masterwork
I would just as easily take Surplus over Field Prep. That node is a toss up.
If Rampage, throw on a Rampage Spec mod, otherwise you can’t go wrong with Major Spec or Boss Spec.
The first Iron Banner of Season of the Splicer begins on May 18th.
